Trends in design often mirror societal values and evolving lifestyle preferences.

Today, quiet luxury seems to be the trend and the gallery is paying attention. We know that many homeowners investing in building and remodeling today want materials and features of which they won’t grow tired. Our clients are seeking quality handmade items and other bespoke elements that help them feel good in their space. There is a shift away from tight formal spaces and toward a level of comfort and coziness.

Many are moving away from the austere colors of gray and white, and instead are seeking warm tones which reflect a desire for a more personalized living space.

Optimistic colors are on the rise. Colors that inspire hope and happiness help to create spaces that will get us through whatever the world stirs up! At the J Petter, we are curating the art and our gallery space to help you make your home your “happy place.”

When working in neutrals our designer friends and customers are pushing toward warm woods, creamy off-whites, rich browns, organic stones, and layers of texture to provide a calmer more welcoming environment.

For our clients that embrace color, deep jewel tones such as burgundy, mustard, and sienna are big and green is now pretty much considered neutral.

With so much going on in the world many homeowners tell us they are singing the blues, and are looking to blue accents to create that sense of calm.  Whether it’s a sky-inspired hue or deep watery elements, blue provides a strong link to nature and connects people to those outdoor spaces that make the world feel right.

Joyful and dreamy shades are on the rise.  L’art de vivre, the fine art of living well, was celebrated at the Maison & Objet Design Fair in Paris, France. Designers there noted that you couldn’t help but sense an overwhelming thirst for optimism and an urgent desire for our interiors to help us stand strong during tough times—Sunshine yellow, floral pink and corals, and deep greens blended into pure beauty.

We love the trend of optimistic colors. We also know that color choices are personal and there are no rules about what makes you feel good in your space.  We look forward to hearing from you about your optimistic colors and we are dedicated to helping you find the art to compliment and complete your sanctuary.

Selecting your artwork truly is an experience to savor and we celebrate the fine art of living with you!

Juli Petter

Owner | Gallery Director

Juli transformed the gallery in 2013 when she left the corporate grind to lead the J. Petter Gallery and create the Petter Wine Gallery, the lakeshore's premier wine shop, showcasing a handpicked selection of fine wine as well as a collection of unique cheeses, artisan food, and artful home decor. Juli's love of fine art was fostered from a young age by her mother who taught at Kendall School of Art and Design and was also a founding member of the still-thriving Grand Rapids art group, Grand Valley Artists. Even though Juli spent most of her career outside of the arts, her love of art and wine was a constant. She moonlighted as an independent interior decorator and also studied what she calls the art of wine. Her business savvy and love of interior design and wine led Juli to create our warm and inviting space.  She hopes you will join us here at the gallery to partake in two of her favorite things.
